The Moon Area girls lacrosse team continued its dominant start to the season with a hard-fought 12-10 victory over Shaler on Wednesday night. The Lady Tigers jumped out to an early lead and held off a late push from the Titans to remain undefeated at 5-0.
Avery Machusko led the way for Moon with a stellar five-goal performance, pacing an offense that was firing on all cylinders early. Marleigh Therrien contributed three goals, while Gianna DeLuca, Kamryn White, Reese Keslar, and Alyssa Spellman each found the back of the net once.
Moon exploded for six goals in the first quarter and added three more in the second to take a commanding lead at halftime. Shaler responded with a strong second quarter, netting four goals to stay within striking distance. The Tigers added two goals in the third and one in the final frame to seal the victory. Meanwhile, Shaler kept pressing, scoring three goals in the fourth quarter, but the Tigers’ defense and clutch goaltending kept them at bay.
Goalkeeper Shiri Kudratullaev was outstanding in net, recording 15 saves to anchor the defensive effort and preserve the win.
Moon now turns its attention to a key section matchup on Friday night at Upper St. Clair. The junior varsity game is set for 5:30 p.m., with varsity action to follow at 7 p.m.
