Dear Moon Area Families, As we prepare for the upcoming 2025–2026 school year, we want to share several important updates regarding athletic programming: 1. Athletic Information Night – Wednesday, May 28th at 6:00 PM (NEW DATE)Please join us in the Moon Area High School Auditorium for an Athletic Information Night. This event will include a presentation on eligibility requirements, athletic registration, and the role of student-athletes and families in supporting a positive athletic experience. We strongly encourage all student-athletes and families to attend. 2. Athletic Physicals – Tuesday, May 13, 2025 In partnership with AHN Sports Medicine, Moon Area will host athletic physicals for the 2025–2026 school year on Tuesday, May 13th. More About 2025 Spring Sports Senior DaysThe Moon Area Athletic Department will have commemorative signings on the following dates: November 13, 2024 February 5, 2025 April 16, 2025 All signings will take place at 2:30 PM in the HS Main Gym All students planning to participate in a signing day are asked to sign up in the athletic office no later than 2 days prior to the signing day.
More About 24-25 National Letter of Intent Signing DaysMoon Area Girls Rugby won the inaugural PA Scholastic Cup 7s. The PA Scholastic Cup is the tournament that will eventually become the PIAA Girls Rugby State Championship.Moon Area started pool play with wins over a combined Reading HS - Cocalico HS 47-0. Moon Area continued to roll beating West Chester HS 48-0The 2 wins put Moon Area into the Championship Pool with hard matches against Hempfield HS and Conestoga HS on the horizon.The first match against Hempfield had the Tigers on their back foot. Hempfield scored twice and the Tigers were trailing 10-0. Tries by Ava Steed and Maria Depner saw us hit the half down 17-14. The 2nd half was all Moon Area Tigers, with Depner adding another try and Steed adding 2. Hempfield scored on the last play, but it was too late and Moon Area won 31-22.The final match was against Conestoga HS. More About Moon Area Girls Rugby Wins Inaugural PA Scholastic CupThe Girls Flag Football Team hosted the First and Quarterfinal Rounds of the Steelers Girls Flag Football Championships on Saturday, May 17th at Tiger Stadium. The Tigers would open their first round game with a victory over Aliquippa by the score of 25-0. In quarterfinal Battle of the Tigers, Moon would need a last minute touchdown to defeat North Allegheny 6-0. Today's two wins secured the Tigers a spot at Highmark Stadium, Sunday, May 18th as they look to complete a championship 3-peat. Winner will take on the winner from the Shaler/Upper St. Clair semifinal. More About Moon Area Girls Track Shines at WPIAL Class 3A Championships – May 14 at Slippery Rock UniversityThe Moon Area girls lacrosse team punched their ticket to the WPIAL Class 3A Semifinals with a strong all-around performance, defeating Norwin 13-7 on Thursday night in the quarterfinal round.The Tigers came out focused, building an early lead and maintaining their edge throughout all four quarters. Moon tallied 2 goals in the first quarter before exploding for 5 in the second, taking a 7-3 lead into halftime. They added 3 goals in both the third and fourth quarters to keep Norwin at bay, sealing the victory with consistent offensive pressure and disciplined defense.Moon’s offensive attack was led by Avery Machusko, who posted a standout performance with 3 goals and 1 assist. More About Girls Varsity Lacrosse Defeats Norwin in WPIAL 3A Quarterfinals, Advances to SemifinalsMoon Area Girls Rugby drop the state semi-final to Downingtown, and finishes their season with a 9-2 record.The Tigers came our slow against Downingtown giving up 3 tries in the first 15 minutes to go down 17-0, but the Tigers started digging their way out through their kicking game and continued attack. Hannah Wasnieski scored a try with Ellie Nurss converting to give Moon a lifeline, but then a yellow card saw the Tigers playing down a player. going into and after the half. After successfully killing off the sin bin, Moon Area scored on a big run by Senior Ava Steed, with Nurss converting again.
