The Moon Area Tigers wrestling team made a strong showing at the WPIAL Class 3A Championships on February 21-22 at Canon-McMillan High School, with four standout athletes earning spots at the upcoming PIAA West Regional Tournament.

Leading the charge was Cael Yanek at 133 lbs, who battled his way to an impressive 4th place finish. Yanek posted a solid 3-2 record over the weekend, securing two victories by decision and one by technical fall, showcasing both grit and technical prowess.

At 107 lbs, Bryce Thomas delivered a hard-fought performance, finishing 6th overall. Thomas went 3-3 during the tournament, earning two wins by decision and one by fall, demonstrating his resilience and determination on the mat.

In the 160 lbs weight class, Liam Costa powered through the bracket to claim 7th place. Costa also compiled a 3-2 record, highlighted by a win by technical fall, a major decision, and a hard-fought decision victory.

Rounding out Moon’s impressive showing was Michael Olszewski at 172 lbs, who secured 6th place with a 3-3 record, all of his victories coming by decision—a testament to his consistency and competitive edge.

All four wrestlers will continue their postseason journey, advancing to the PIAA West Regional Tournament at Canon-McMillan from February 28th to March 1st. With their momentum building, the Tigers will look to keep the energy high and punch their tickets to the state championships.
